A Family Garden in Cambus

The Brief:
The clients wanted a family friendly back garden, incorporating a lawned area, pathways and low maintenance planting. The main issue with this garden was the poor drainage which the clients had already tried to have resolved several times.

The Design: As drainage systems had been tried and failed, we decided to overcome the problem of a boggy lawn by including a raised lawn. This provided an area for the children to play but still at a safe height and resolved the drainage issue. The platform was created using sleeper edging and was complemented with gravel pathways incorporating stepping stones to add additional fun for the children. Planting was kept low maintenance using bamboos, phormiums and grasses with splashes of colour being included through alliums and primula vialiis as well as two acer atropurpureum. A eucalyptus tree at the bottom of the garden provided a focal point and a self polinating apple tree was included to provide some additional interest for the children. An alpine corner finished off the design.
