A
Children's Play Area in Edinburgh
The
Brief:
The clients wanted one side of their existing patio area to be
made child friendly with the drop to the lower level of the garden to
be addressed as well as creating a soft landing area for the child
while playing on their swings etc.
 |
The
Design:
Various ground coverings were considered but many were ruled out as the
owners have cats so a flooring which would be safe for the child and not used as a
litter tray was required. Rubber matting was chosen as it provided a
safe surface which has the added benefit that it can be lifted at a later date and taken to a new
home. They also provided a finish which was not out of place with the
rest of the patio. |
 |
A picket fence and gate was built to provide a
safe boundary to the play area.

What the client thought:
'When we
first moved into the house, it was clear the garden wasn't suitable for our
toddler son. There was a lot of concrete paving and a steep drop down to a
lower terrace, so we asked Vialli Design to come up with some suggestions for a
safe play area. Their design of rubber flooring and picket fence make for a
child friendly space which is still really attractive. Our son has already
fallen from his chute numerous times, and boy were we glad the rubber tiles
were in place!'
