The new front garden
The clients wanted their front garden updating to give more of a "wow factor" but also be low maintenance. They specifically wanted the old path replaced which was a straight line of concrete slabs. Either side of the path was simply some lawn and couple of shrubs but no real interest. The clients wanted to keep some lawn and their existing rock gardens but were open to other ideas.

Before: a lawn, a path and not much else After: new path, reshaped and edged lawn and striking containers

" Thank you for all your hard work. We just need you to arrange for the good weather now to allow us to enjoy our lovely garden. "
A geometric design was chosen for the design with a new path created to complement the yellow brick of the house, and set at an angle to giving a feeling of space.  The path was made from off-set squares of varying designs. Each square was bordered with setts, which were also used to edge the re-shaped lawns and tie the whole design together.  To create a boundary to the garden, striking contrainers were planted with phormium. These were complemented beautifully with matching spheres which were placed at strategic spots in the garden to draw your eye.  The existing stone circle was reshaped to fit the new design and all other ground was covered with a complementary gravel to suppress weeds giving a low maintenance and attractive finish. Thyme was planted into the gravel so that it would give off a lovely scent when it was brushed against.  Other planting included cotinus, bamboo and grasses such as Carex Buchananii. Some perennials were included for colour such as Astrantia Dark Shiny Eyes and Allium Christophii and Purple Sensation.

View of the new fence and the planting There were some leggy shrubs to the side of the property but no real boundary. The shrubs were removed and replaced with a smart new picket fence. The existing lawn was reshaped into the geometric design and edged in setts. Gravel was planted with a mixture of low maintenance shrubs and a few perennials to add some colour to the front garden.
