A Low Maintenance Front Garden in Tillicoultry

The Brief:
The clients wanted their front garden updating to give more of a wow factor but also be low maintenance. They specifically wanted the old path replaced, the shrubs to the side removed and some lawn kept along with their existing rock garden.

Design

The Design:

A geometric design was chosen for the design with a new path created to complement the yellow brick of the house, and set at an angle to giving a feeling of space.  The path was made from off-set squares, each square containing a different pattern of rectangular slabs. Each square was bordered with setts, which were also used to edge the re-shaped lawns and tie the whole design together.

The existing stone circle was reshaped to fit the new design and all other ground was covered with a complementary gravel to suppress weeds giving a low maintenance and attractive finish. The shrubs to the side were replaced with a simple picket fence. Testimonial

Planting was made up primarily of structural shrubs in greens and deep reds including bamboos, phormium, cotinus and grasses. Colour was introduced through eye catching perennials such as alliums, astrantia, cyanara cardunculus and primula vialii.

The design was finished off with six eyecatching containers containing phormium giving a modern, contemporary finish and a boundary to the front, complemented with matching spherical sculptures.
